MANAGING ENGINEERING,
TECHNOLOGY AND INNOVATION FOR GROWTH

IEEE Technology Management Council is starting a series of annual regional conferences and we have the honour to host the first IEMC-Europe 2008, at Estoril, Portugal.

We chose the Conference title MANAGING ENGINEERING, TECHNOLOGY AND INNOVATION FOR GROWTH as we feel that it helps to have clear goals when talking about engineering management. We search for economic growth, either for firms, sectors, regions or for the country.

Engineering is the art of science; it transforms abstract concepts into useful technology and, as such, preserves and expands human knowledge. On the other hand, knowledge is expressed by action and work and these, together with technology, provide adding value. As such, engineering becomes perhaps the most important vehicle for value creation. To achieve this goal we need the contributions of engineers, managers and economists. Furthermore, we need the views of professionals, researchers, students and professors. It is this forum that IEEE-TMC gathers for its conferences, tradition that will be conserved in this new conferences series.

CALL FOR PAPERS

The IEEE Technology Management Council (formerly known as the Engineering Management Society) and the IEMC-Europe 2008 Conference Committee invite full paper contributions from researchers, educators, managers and students of engineering management on the theme Managing Engineering, Technology and Innovation for Growth. Contributions may be conceptual, theoretical or empirical. They should be the result of research activity, case studies or best practices, must shed light on the theory or practice of engineering, technology or innovation management and consider the strategic objective of economic growth.
